Time:12.30pm – 4.30pm – Advance booking required please contact l.baker@csm.arts.ac.uk

Location:  Surface Design Lab, Room B302, Central Saint Martins, Kings Cross.

The aim is to stimulate a new design idea for a t-shirt around the theme of connectivity.

Your imagery can come from structures that you build/create during the workshop using repeated objects that are easily and cheaply available in large quantities. Beforehand you can reference markets, hardware shops, pound shops, trimmings shops etc., where you will find a selection of useful materials for this project. Bring these along with you to the session. Materials will also be available at the workshop. The initial structures you make from these materials during the session can be freestanding or informal experimental samples. You will discover how different units can combine to reveal new possibilities for shape, structure, growth, change, and connectivity – different kinds of pattern and order that can appear predictable or random. You will photograph and document your structures, scan and edit them for output as a print with digital embellishment for a plain white t-shirt. The idea of this project is to relate visual research and experiment to design outcomes.
